Shortly after graduating a semester early in December 2016, I was given the opportunity to work at Hearst Magazines at their satellite office in Chicago supporting the Midwest Advertising Directors for ELLE and O, the Oprah Magazine.
As I work for both titles, I am the main support for both directors who overlook all Midwest based advertisers. These include P&G, Nestle, Target, Kohl's, and more. We work with both clients and their agencies to sell advertising within the magazines' media realms. This encompasses print and digital advertising along with partnerships and sponsored events for national campaigns.
My weekly work includes completing RFP's, tracking expenses, constructing share of market reports, executing monthly mailers, and creating client presentations and decks. My directors and I work alongside our respective magazines' marketing, research, and editorial teams to effectively fulfill client requests and ensure a continuously collaborative relationship.
Through my job, I work daily with programs such as Salesforce, MediaRadar, Concur and Atlas for various tasks. Salesforce is the main way in which we keep track of monthly insertion orders (IOs), prospects, client and agency contacts, and our complimentary list of mailers. I use MediaRadar to compare our print advertising with that of our main competitive list. I'm able to pull print ads along with editorial credits of different clients and use the information to help build presentations. Along with these two, I use Concur to fulfill both directors' expenses and travel needs, and Atlas to pull stock images used in each magazine.
This portion of my career has been focused on the development of building relationships both internally and externally to better piece together the system of media strategy and buying. I am learning how different agencies work together to fulfill campaigns in a media space and how we work internally to generate revenue. As I have learned a tremendous amount since beginning, I'm excited to continue to grow into my role and further evolve my skills to further advance myself in the future.
